The first official International Women’s Day (IWD) was celebrated on March 8, 1911. IWD is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day allows us the opportunity to celebrate women’s achievements, educate and raise awareness for gender equality through equitable practices, call for positive change around advancing women, and amplify women’s voices.
At the AICPA & CIMA, we recognize International Women’s Day as a way to celebrate the contributions and achievements women have made in accounting, finance and beyond, over the course history and today. We also use the day to encourage members to continue making positive strides as a profession by featuring women in the profession who educate and share best practices through various activities such as blogs, webcasts, videos, podcasts, along with social media campaigns.
2023 IWD Theme
Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that's diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women's equality. Collectively we can all #EmbraceEquity. (from http://www.internationalwomensday.com/)
